Why should advisers consider bringing students to the state conference?
If for nothing else, come for a ONE DAY “SHOT-IN-THE-ARM!” It’s not just about competition! Competition is only one small aspect of the state conference; in addition, the conference offers a wealth of information for students and advisers. Students will come away feeling rejuvenated. In one Saturday afternoon, they will network, share ideas, make new contacts, gather valuable resources, and come away that much more knowledgeable about the world of journalism. The sessions and other worthwhile reasons to attend:
- Students and advisers may choose from a variety of learning sessions in newspaper, yearbook, photography, desktop publishing, advising, press law, broadcasting, law and ethics, leadership skills and more.
- WJEA Best of Show, Write-off competitions, and other awards
- Media Swap Shops (bring your publications and/or videos to swap!)
- Presentations by some of the state’s top newsmakers, reporters and advisers
*Participation in the competition is NOT required
